RANGE WEED


Headwaters Range Weed Committee was established to assist in the campaign to control the proliferation of noxious weeds in the eight-county area.

Because they replace more desirable and productive plant species, noxious weeds limit the economic and aesthetic benefits received from all types of land, including urban areas.

  • Hounds tongue
  • Hoary Alysum

This committee was established to:

  • Coordinate weed control in the area
  • Promote public awareness of noxious weed issues
  • Support and propose federal and state legislation that upgrades the issues of weed management
  • Increase public awareness of noxious weed problems in southwest Montana
  • Promote good land use policy that serves as a guide for the future
  • Continue development of communication and relationships with other RC&D areas concerning the spread of weeds
  • Continue support and promote programs of biological and cultural weed management activities
  • Encourage weed awareness activities.  Promote activities encouraging weed education and prevention
  • Maintain a leadership role in development and adoption of sound weed management efforts
  • Work with Montana Weed Control Association to effectively use noxious weed trust money t the state and local level
  • Continue to maintain relationships with federal and local legislators who support weed management
  • Be involved in, support, and host legislative weed management tours

Headwaters Range Weed Committee Activities Include

  • Community events including spray days and weed pulls
  • Car washes to remove weed seeds, thus helping to prevent the spread of weeds
  • Educational programs and workshops
  • Interstate Weed Committees
  • Montana Dyer's Woad Cooperative Project
    • The Dyer's Woad project offers a $50 reward for the discovery of new infestations of the plant within the State of Montana.  Sightings must be confirmed by the Project Coordinator, Monica Pokorny.  Contact information, (406) 763-4109, email:  mpokorny@montana.net
