One Smokin' Cheeseburger!

During one of the many #MTBurgerQuest conversations that we’ve had, someone mentioned that the BBQ joint in Philipsburg uses local beef. With a pep in my step, I hopped in my car and made my way over to Up N Smokin BBQ House! It’s already one of my favorite places to eat, so hey why not?

If we’re being completely honest, initially I was bummed that I’d miss out on their bbq nachos, but after all, I’m committed to the Burger Quest, not that a fresh burger is ever a bad thing. So, I ordered a cheeseburger with a side of “hey, where do you guys get your beef?” Without hesitation, they answered “Sitz Angus Ranch in Harrison, Montana”. After a brief introduction of the #MTBurgerQuest, they handed me by food and off I went.

I don’t think I can fully express how amazing this burger was. It only took one bite to erase all previous memories of my love for bbq nachos. The burger was certainly fresh, juicy, and flavorful. I can’t say that I’ve ever had a burger quite like this one.

As I prepared to share about the experience I pulled up the beef producers website, www.sitzangus.com. Family owned for nearly 100 years, they now have three ranches in Montana. I was instantly drawn into their story as it’s one that reflects true Montana values and legacy. If you’ve just a minute spare, it is certainly worth a read.

The more I learn about local beef producers, the more passionate I become about the #MtBurgerQuest. If you have a story to share about a local beef producer, or if you’ve had an incredible burger experience, we definitely want to hear about. Please send your story to jmatzkanin@headwatersrcd.org!

Last but not least, thank you to Up N Smokin BBQ House for the consistently FRESH and DELICIOUS food! We’re proud to be patrons of such a great local business!
